Azolla (Azolla pinnata), a free-floating fern was cultured under tree canopy shading with an incident sunlight of 700 lux. The culture was treated with phosphorus, zinc and potassium for growth in treatment combinations. Though the specific growth rate and doubling time approximated to zero, biomass as yield was observed. The best biomass yield was observed with only phosphorus and zinc treatment. The work suggests that azolla grown under low illumination can be adapted for indoor cultures and can be used for composting and aesthetic purposes.
